Alameda County Housing and Community Development is sponsoring a viewing of “A Rising Tide” Documentary , the impact of homelessness on our county and panel Discussion.
 
If you haven’t seen the award-winning documentary created by East Bay native Cheryl Fabio, it is more than just a look at homelessness in Alameda County, but shows us the experience of being unhoused through the eyes of children, their families, and the helping industry that has developed from the housing crisis. The film portrays the experiences, strategies and outcomes of people struggling with finding a place to call home in our community.

At our event we will screening a number of excerpts of this documentary on homelessness, each of which will be following by a discussion on poverty and housing.

Witness how rising rent burdens force working families into homelessness, as depicted by medical professionals in the film.

Recognized for its profound impact, “A Rising Tide” has garnered acclaim as an official selection at both the 2023 Oakland International Film Festival and the 2024 African American Women in Cinema Film Festival.

Following the screening, seize the opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking Q&A session with the filmmaker herself.

Join All Home on May 30th, 6-8:30pm at The New Parkway Theater, Oakland, for a screening of “A Rising Tide”. Directed by Cheryl Fabio, the documentary delves into homelessness in Alameda County. Film at 6pm, followed by a 45-min panel on East Bay homelessness solutions. Free with registration.

Our programming is unapologetic and focused on African Americans and the African Diaspora. SWFCenter operates as a trans-disciplinary, community-based, media outlet that is youth-concerned and free-flowing. SWFCenter’s primary practice is producing documentary films. Our films emphasize cultural transformation and countering widespread anti-Black narratives. SWFCenter’s efforts inspire future change agents to thrive. The organization made twenty in 2023.
