Awareness Film Fest

Join us for a special screening of A Rising Tide as part of the Awareness Film Fest on Saturday, October 5th, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at 1000 W. Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA.

In line with the mission of the Awareness Film Fest, A Rising Tide sheds light on the homelessness crisis in the Bay Area, offering a raw and compelling look at one of today’s most urgent social issues. Through this powerful documentary, viewers are invited to witness the stories of those often overlooked, sparking deeper understanding and inspiring action toward meaningful change.

The screening block will feature 1-6 films played in succession over 60-135 minutes, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Your ticket grants you access to all films in this block.

Entry begins at 3:00 pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with thought-provoking stories that challenge us to see beyond the surface and connect with our shared humanity.

Monday, November 6th, Mia Bonita and filmmaker Cheryl Fabio and Oakland Councilmember Carroll Fire are teaming up to host a screening of Fabio’s film A Rising Tide at the historic Grand Lake Theater at 6:00 PM. 

 
Afterward, there will be a panel discussion on how to combat the increased housing insecurity moderated by Claudine Wong–news anchor at Fox 2 KTVU. The first 100 attendees will receive FREE popcorn.

African American Women In Cinema is pleased to participate in the National Urban League Conference Virtual Experience. We are proud to screen the film works of our talented filmmakers.
Join us for a unique, one-time fundraiser featuring films from the Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) in Los Angeles, celebrating 30 years of supporting and promoting Black and diverse filmmakers. Don’t miss “A Rising Tide,” which will be screened during this special event to benefit Tech Exchange.

Join us at Mills College at Northeastern University (Lisser Hall) for an impactful Juneteenth event focused on the critical intersection of unemployment and homelessness. We will screen “A Rising Tide,” a powerful documentary by Cheryl Fabio that illuminates the harsh realities faced by those struggling with joblessness and housing instability.

The program features a dynamic panel discussion, interactive learning circles, and actionable insights designed to inspire meaningful social change. Our goal is to deepen understanding of the structural and systemic inequities that drive economic disparity and homelessness, fostering dialogue on practical and sustainable solutions.

The event will include esteemed speakers, engaging discussions, a Q&A session, and ample opportunities for networking and conversation. Enjoy food and refreshments while we come together to address these pressing issues and work towards a more equitable future.

Join us for a night of food, and light refreshments as we showcase the film, “A Rising Tide.” A documentary by Cheryl Fabio explores homelessness through the perspectives of children, families, and service providers. Followed by a special Q&A with Cheryl Fabio (Film Director), and Darlene Flynn (Director of Department of Race & Equity).

Alameda County Housing and Community Development is sponsoring a viewing of “A Rising Tide” Documentary , the impact of homelessness on our county and panel Discussion.
 
If you haven’t seen the award-winning documentary created by East Bay native Cheryl Fabio, it is more than just a look at homelessness in Alameda County, but shows us the experience of being unhoused through the eyes of children, their families, and the helping industry that has developed from the housing crisis. The film portrays the experiences, strategies and outcomes of people struggling with finding a place to call home in our community.

At our event we will screening a number of excerpts of this documentary on homelessness, each of which will be following by a discussion on poverty and housing.

March 24th, 2024 Benefit Screening

This benefit screening, the creation of Oakland Super Heroes Mural Project Wall #5 , and the restoration of Wall #2 are funded by the Bay Area Creative Corps program, a joint initiative by the San Francisco Foundation and California Arts Council.
