Monday, November 6th, Mia Bonita and filmmaker Cheryl Fabio and Oakland Councilmember Carroll Fire will host a screening of Fabio’s film A Rising Tide at the historic Grand Lake Theater at 6:00 PM.
Alameda County homelessness documentary airs at South Berkeley library on Saturday
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco Foundation announces 29 grantees for the Bay Area Creative Corps Program (BACC), part of the foundation’s partnership with the California Arts Council’s (CAC) statewide initiative, the California Creative Corps (CCC).
The 90-minute film identifies how and why homelessness occurs and, further, how we, as everyday citizens, can chart a new course to stem the tide of homelessness, one conversation at a time.

A new documentary slated to run at the Oakland International Film Festival drives home the point that it’s going to take a village to solve homelessness in Alameda County.
“A Rising Tide,” a 2-hour documentary by Oakland filmmaker Cheryl Fabio, brings to light why nearly 10,000 people are homeless in Alameda County and why the number of unsheltered people grew by 22 percent between 2019 and 2022.

The film is the latest offering from Oakland resident and veteran filmmaker Cheryl Fabio. Speaking by phone with The Oaklandside recently, Fabio described her path to filmmaking and her intentions in producing A Rising Tide.
